My journey in the field of corporate law and especially capital markets has been immensely influenced by Lex Familia India and the guidance of Mr. Naryan Kedia. In legal profession, one rarely finds mentors who work to teach and train freshers. In the initial days of the workshop every student enrolled was spoon fed. By spoon feeding, I in no ways mean that we are not tested analytically. The workshop is highly technical, and it requires active participation from our end.

I was a student whose basics were weak, it is Mr. Kedia efforts that I learnt the nuances of Capital Markets with great ease.

The Securities Law and Capital Markets workshop conducted by Lex Familia India under the guidance and mentorship of Narayan sir is a uniquely structured course where the emphasis is not only on theoretical knowledge but also on practical learning. I was part of the first batch of LFI when Narayan sir started teaching during the pandemic. He is a patient teacher who dedicates a lot of time to his students. The courses at LFI were one of my most foundational experiences as a student. At LFI, I could explore the practical aspects of corporate law, which was not available in the traditional pedagogy of colleges.

If I had to describe it briefly, I would call it a crash course in becoming a transactions lawyer. However, this phrase would betray the effort my mentor Narayan Kedia made to impart all his knowledge, wisdom, and experience onto me.

At the time, I was constantly thinking about becoming a “Corporate Lawyer,” but I had little understanding of what that truly entailed. Taking the Capital Markets course not only solidified my foundation in company and securities law but also gave me a deep, practical insight into how the practice area operates. The course was invaluable in helping me build simple yet crucial habits, such as staying updated on legal developments and regularly reading commercial newspapers. These habits, which I cultivated during the course, played a significant role in easing my transition into the challenging corporate legal profession once I entered the workforce.

The classes at LFI offered a refreshing break from the “bookish” approach that law school often encourages. Instead, we were given the opportunity to see how the law truly applies to real-world transactions, and more importantly, the outcomes that arise from its correct (and incorrect) application. This course filled a crucial gap, providing practical experience that typically only comes much later in one’s career, once they’re working in a law firm.

Despite the challenges of managing a large class, Narayan Sir’s dedication to each student was exceptional. He made sure that every student received individual attention and walked away with valuable lessons. I am truly grateful for this experience, which has not only broadened my legal knowledge but has also better equipped me for my professional journey ahead

LFI is an academy of shared growth and knowledge. As a student, I always wanted to understand the practice of capital markets but was reluctant since it is viewed as something nuanced and complex. Narayan sir changed that perspective, he guided us through the basics like reading a novel and made the learning exercises very exciting like a game. He mentored us on A0 work which gave me an edge to enter the industry. He has guided me personally on my interview preparation. Being a first generation lawyer, I was always intimidated by tier 1 practices, he mentored me on how to prepare and crack a job. He was always available for every student, this made us feel more connected to him considering his great experience and position in the industry. Today, whichever city and whichever tier 1 law firm it is, we would find an LFI alumni. His academy is not just for learning but also for connecting in capital markets practice.
